Hydroponics Lights

Grow lights are an absolute necessity if you want to grow plants indoors. They are needed to provide plants with the light energy they would usually get from the sun. Light is food and nourishment for plants, so carefully selecting the right grow light to do the job is one of the most important aspects of creating a successful set-up.

Carefully selecting suitable hydroponics lights for your grow room set-up is fundamental if you want to create an optimum environment. A grow light that’s too small will cause your yield to suffer and too big will cause issues with heat. Click this box to learn more about choosing the right hydroponics lights.

When choosing hydroponics lights you’ll need to consider:

  • If the light will be powerful enough to adequately nourish all of your plants

  • Whether the light is going to cause problems with controlling heat and temperature

Taking both of these points into consideration will help you create the optimum lighting conditions, which in turn will give your plants the best opportunity to flourish and stay healthy.

Different types of grow light

Grow lights come in three main forms: High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights, Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL), and Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights. Out of these three, we only stock CFL and HID lights as they are both capable of getting great results when used in the right environment.

LED grow lights are expensive and ineffective

LED lights, although attractive with their claims of less energy consumption, less heat output, and less space requirements, are currently severely lacking when it comes to keeping plants healthy and obtaining great yields. We hope to see improvements in the technology in the near future, but until that time, LEDs are both expensive and ineffective and we’re happy to hold fire on LEDs until the results match that of HIDs.

HID lights are without a doubt the most powerful lights on the market. They range from 150W of power all the way up to 1000W. However, in smaller grow tents and growing environments HIDs can cause heat problems. CFLs (available in either 125W or 250W of power) run at a lower temperature and can still produce great yields in smaller growing environments.

Grow light accessories

Many accessories exist on the market to allow further customisation and control of your growing environment. Grow light accessories are designed to reduce complications and simplify the growing process. For example:

  • Various reflectors will disperse light and heat in different ways

  • Timers can allow for simple control of light cycles

  • Rolling hangers can help you adjust the height of your light with ease

  • Controllers can help you take complete control when using multiple lights in a single growing environment
